Lone Lake
Lone Lake
With my backpack stuffed full and my dog in toe, I step out of my vehicle and am greeted by the towering trees, a light wind, and sun beating down on my face. I am filled with anticipation, excitement, and joy as I know where I am headed. Everyone has a place they feel most at home in, the place where they feel at peace. For me, it is Lone Lake. As I start my 5-mile journey, up what feels like straight up the side of a mountain, I am greeted with towering Ponderosa Pines and the smell of fresh air.
Halfway I begin to rapidly increase elevation, I get deeper into the woods and I begin to see scenery like I have never seen before. Trees that once looked like the highest of towers, begin to shrink and bushes that my dog ran through begin to look like blades of grass. The sight of immense mountains takes over and even though I have seen the view many times, it still takes my breath away. I am drawn back to attention as my dog my dog continues to pull me up the mountain.
As I continue my walk, I can hear the roaring of a waterfall that feeds the bushes at the base of the mountain. As I near the lake colors begin to shift and my trail begins to get less steep. Flowers have more color and are more vibrant than I have ever seen before, roots are busting out the base of trees like an octopus wrapping its-self around something. My heart is racing, and I am filled with anticipation as I know I am only yards away from the lake. I round a corner and am filled with an overwhelming landscape that looks as if I am trapped in on all sides. I have reached my happy place.
The water is so clear you can see the bottom of the lake. During some parts of the year, the lake holds almost a turquoise tinge to it, and you can see everything underneath. At the highest part of the mountain there is still snow, making the water ice cold. I am beat and hot from the hike in, so I jump into the cold water. As the water hits my skin, I get a shock through my body that wakes me up and excites me all together. I quickly jump out of the water, and stay quiet so I can hear the wildlife around me and take in the gorgeous landscape that entraps me in this cove. I know my time here is coming to an end, so I pack up my backpack and leave the most serene place I have ever seen.
As I begin my journey downward, I am greeted by the mountains on all sides, bushes that appear like blades of grass, and a waterfall in the distance. I feel most at peace when I am surrounded with trees on all sides and a view so pristine it always takes your breath away.
